John E. McKeon

President and Registered Principal

John grew up in Hawaii, graduating from Punahou School on Oahu in 1983. Following one year of college at Iowa State University on a Naval ROTC Scholarship, he was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he graduated with distinction (top 10% of his class) in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. He then received a scholarship and graduated from Penn State University in 1990 with a Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering.

John served in the Naval Submarine Service until 1996. During that time, from 1991 until 1996, he served at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as an officer aboard the USS Olympia (SSN 717), and on the staff for the Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. John left active duty service as a Lieutenant, and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander while serving in the Naval Reserves.

In 1996, John made the “obvious” career transition from Naval Nuclear Submarine Warfare Officer into licensed insurance professional, providing long-term care insurance solutions for GE Financial, which later became Genworth Financial. He was the Agent of the Year for the Northwestern United States from 1998 to 2003 and a member of GE Financial's Presidents Club in 2001 and 2002, protecting more than 1,000 individuals with Long-Term Care insurance. During the 2001-2002 market decline, John noticed that many of his clients’ portfolios were being hurt by volatility in the stock market and the traditional allocations of stocks and bonds their portfolios consisted of. This led him in 2004 to form John McKeon & Associates, DBA “McKeon Financial”.

At McKeon Financial, while the registered representatives are licensed for securities and insurance investments, to include stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and annuities, we specialize in a wide range of alternative investments not available to many financial advisors or to the general public.
