"Hoku" is Hawaiian for "Star". Hoku Cooper was the star, best buddy, and furry companion to John's mother, Mearl Cooper, before her passing in September of 2023. John subsequently inherited her star, and because Hoku needed to be the center of attention, he has become the official office dog, with the self-appointed title of Front Door Security.
